Someone painted this mural on the door and then someone else painted over it again. I’m thinking it should be painted on all the walls and doors and crosswalks and houses and churches and schools and textbooks, definitely the effing one-sided privileged textbooks.
I’ve been talking a lot with my friend K about our responsibility to understand and change. She said “I keep going back to this; If you've never had a Supreme Court case decide if you have the same rights as others, you have privilege.”
We have so much work to do my dear white cisgendered privileged friends. So very much. Are you cultivating a sense of belonging in your work, your home, your friendships? Are you learning and teaching yourself and others and your children about the language of inclusivity? Do you live with your heart open in the fullest possible sense? Can you do it with time, money, service, or building a deeper awareness?
