When I do your session, I’m watching, always. Looking for the things in between. The way one of your kids is shy, and the other is extroverted and what everyone is like with each other. Families are complex, people are complex and families and people getting their photos done are the complexiest of all.

I knew these kids would want to stop and spin in these chairs, and we had plenty enough time to do so. But the sun was harsh and the chairs were so very very red and it wasn’t exactly how I wanted it so I didn’t plan to snap a lot of pics here. But I saw her….watched her watching her brothers. The tension in her little hands, the holding in her face. She was excited for them, probably wanted to have her own turn but willing to wait…and also very worried for them when the chairs spun towards the back and the boys squealed at the feeling of disequilibrium.

This is what I’m looking for when I stop mid-sentence and wander off like I’m distracted…. I’m seeing the little parts of your people that show their complex and beautiful faces and ways.

Love you the most, kid.
