I favor the storytellers. I like the people who have walked a path, tried out a road, failed and floundered and kept going. The ones with grit under their fingernails from the ground and the mountain. The ones with some skin in the game. Jonathan Gottschall says we are Storytelling Animals; “We are, as a species, addicted to story. Even when the body goes to sleep, the mind stays up all night, telling itself stories.”

Tim is a storyteller. More than that, though, he’s a good listener. It’s rarity in this loud noisy culture, to find someone who tunes in and asks important questions, drilling down to where the narrative is. As he tells it, he’s most interested in people that made it all the way to home plate by starting in the dugout, instead of on third base. He wants to know how you worked hard, fought longer and overcame obstacles just for a shot at opportunity. He’s so good at talking to others that he’s created a Podcast to give people a vehicle to share their anecdotes and histories. It’s called Born on 3rd and he talks about the intersection of Equality, Opportunity and Education in a way that is both approachable and an agent of change.

I’ll be posting more about Tim as he interviews guests on his show, but you can - you should - start following him here Born on 3rd.
